Quarterly Business Meeting

May 27, 2006

Call to Order

The NCLEWA quarterly business meeting was held at the Golden Corral restaurant in Greensboro, NC.  The meeting convened at 12:30 p.m. and Chaplain Patricia Smith (Gibsonville PD) gave the invocation.  Secretary Teresa G. Fountain conducted the roll call of the Association’s officers.

Reading of Minutes

The minutes from the last quarterly meeting were read.  Wanda Grier made the motion to accept the minutes as read. Wanda Holland seconded the motion and the motion was passed.

Treasurer’s Report

Wanda Holland presented the Treasurer’s report.  The report was available from June 2004 to June 2006.   Checks were written to cover Forgotten Residents.  A check for $25.oo was returned due to insufficient funds.

Wanda Grier made the motion to accept the Treasurer’s report as read.  Marissa Davis seconded the motion.  The motion carried and was approved.

New Membership

There are several applications for membership that have been received by Wanda Holland.  The applicants will be voted on at the September conference.  Money received for last year’s conference will be applied toward this year’s conference.

 

Chaplain’s Report

Chaplain Trish Smith reported that there was no new business.

 

Conference Report

The conference registration will be on September 27, 2006 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm.  Pre-registration fees are $50.00 ( includes luncheon and banquet) if paid prior to September 15, 2006.  After September 16, 2006 the conference registration fees will increase to $60.00.

Conference – The 50th Annual Training Conference for the NCLEWA will be held from September 27-30, 2006 at the Clarion Hotel/Greensboro Airport.  Opening remarks will be made by the NCLEWA President and members of the conference committee.

Luncheon – September 28, 2006 from 11:30 am- 1:00 pm.  There were several suggestions made for a guest speaker.  The luncheon will be free for conference attendees.  Guests will pay $10.00 each to attend the luncheon.  There will be a Honor/Color Guard and opening remarks by the Guilford County Sheriff and/or the Greensboro Chief of Police Chief.

Training credits will be awarded through the NC Justice Academy.

Lorraine Galloway (lgalloway@ncdoj.gov) will serve as the NCJA coordinator/NCLEWA liaison.  The training topics are as follows:

Donations/door prizes – each conference attendee is encouraged to bring at least one door prize.

The annual business meeting and the election of officers will be on Saturday morning, September 30, 2006 at 9:00 am.

The banquet will be held on Saturday evening, September 30, 2006.  The guest speaker will Lieutenant Patsy Lightle of the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.  The newly elected officers will be installed and the NCLEWA Woman of the Year will be recognized.

 

Merchandise Report: 

President Allen reported that new merchandise may be ordered through the NCLEWA website (www.nclewa.com).   

Forgotten Residents

Wanda Holland has delivered checks to each of the four forgotten residents sponsored by NCLEWA.

Membership Accomplishments

Lieutenant Teresa G. Fountain (Wrightsville Beach Police Department) was the recipient of the New Hanover County Human Relations Commission award.

Wanda Holland (Morganton Public Safety) has transferred to a position as a Fire Inspector. 

Adjournment

Teresa Fountain made the motion to adjourn the meeting.  Wanda Grier seconded the motion and the meeting was adjourned at 2:10 p.m.
